SHOPLIFTERS UNLEASH DOG ON SECURITY by; Rick McCann www.privateofficer.com

BETHLEHEM NY Oct. 12, 2007 -- A pair of shoplifters sicced a dog on a security officer at a Slingerlands Price Chopper and sped away while the man was struggling with one of them, police said

At 11:35 a.m. Thursday, a male left the Price Chopper at 1355 New Scotland Road with a grocery cart full of stolen items, Bethlehem police Lt. Thomas Heffernan Jr. said.
He was followed into the parking lot by a security officer who attempted to apprehend him. Heffernan said as the two men struggled, a second suspect in the getaway car unleashed a menacing dog on the pair.
The security officer was not bitten by the dog and was grabbing on to the first suspect as the two drove away. The two escaped without the stolen items and the security officer was not injured.
Police were at the scene on Thursday afternoon, trying to track down the suspect's getaway car.
Heffernan said the suspect that struggled with the officer faces at least one felony charge of robbery and is likely to also face reckless endangerment charges as well.
He said more details, including a description of the suspects and their getaway car would be released as it became available.
